it shows right on my instance and on moshidon. it's on in the settings

it's been this way for a long time , but it didn't seem worth mentioning deb was stalled

This feature is for real markdown. When publishing with markdown, the text is transformed by your instance in formated HTML. So the markdown feature from Fedilab will not work. Just disable it.

omg I had no idea, I thought I needed it enabled

that fixed it! might be worth noting that on the option

also: I did notice that lists have odd double spacing that I don't see in any other client though

Yes, that was due to markdown support enabled :)
This feature works for text not transformed by instances. So it's a kind of "geeky" feature

@apps Oh, this is with that option turned back off!

I wouldn't expect to see all list items being forced to have an entire extra line break between them
